As much as we would like to see every dime the RFA raises go directly to the youth of Milam County, a large portion of those funds must go to park maintenance. Fair Park has come a long way from just the original race track and bleachers. Over the years we have purchased and cleared additional land, added two large barns, the Home Demonstration Clubhouse, the pavilion, many concession food booths, office space, the show ring, ticket booths, restrooms, and outfitted a large BBQ area. In addition, the RFA is also responsible for the cost of the majority of all maintenance and upkeep of Fair Park. Ninety-nine percent of all construction projects have been handled by board members and other volunteers. We rely on a vast number of volunteers with skills that range from plumbing, to welding, to electrical, to carpentry in order to keep the park running smoothly. In the last five years, a few of our biggest projects consisted of running electricity and water to a new tract of land that doubled the size of BBQ Alley, adding a new barn to accommodate the rising number of animal projects that are being submitted, and most recently, building a new barn to house our growing commercial heifer shows.
